Terms
Sondering is in beta and free to use. Use it for honest research. Don't use it to harm people. We can't make any guarantees about it yet.
Who this agreement is between
These terms are between you and Mithras R&D AS, a Norwegian company. By using Sondering, you accept these terms. If you don't, please don't use the service.
What Sondering is
Sondering is an AI-led interview tool. A host describes what they want to learn in a short chat with our AI, then shares a link. Respondents open the link and answer in a short, AI-led conversation. The host reads what comes back, sometimes with AI-generated summaries to help them make sense of it.
What hosts agree to
If you create an interview, you agree that:
- You have a lawful basis to invite the people you invite. Under GDPR that usually means consent or legitimate interest. You'll be honest with them about what the interview is for — Sondering displays a clear "what this is" panel on every invitation, but you remain responsible for the underlying premise.
- You won't collect special-category data through Sondering. That means no questions designed to extract information about health, ethnicity, race, religion, sexuality, political views, trade-union membership, or biometric or genetic data. Sondering is not built for that and we won't help you do it.
- You won't use Sondering for spam, harassment, hate, illegal evaluation of people, scraping, or anything that violates other people's rights. This includes using respondents' words to make decisions about them in ways they wouldn't expect.
- You will treat your admin link like a password. Anyone with the admin link can read every response on your interview. Loss of control of that link is on you.
- You act as the data controller for the responses you collect. Mithras R&D AS acts as your data processor for that limited purpose — we process those responses only on your behalf, in order to run the service for you. If your use of Sondering requires a separate data-processing agreement under your own compliance regime, contact us and we'll arrange one.
What respondents agree to
If you've been invited to take part in an interview, you agree to a much lighter set of things:
- Answer honestly if you choose to — but only what you're comfortable sharing.
- You can stop at any time, skip any question, or close the tab. None of those things are held against you.
- Don't submit content you don't have the right to share, or that's unlawful or seriously harmful.
You don't need an account, you don't owe us anything, and you can walk away with no consequences.
Your content
Hosts keep ownership of the interview plan they designed and the responses they collect. Respondents keep authorship of what they wrote.
To run Sondering for you, you grant Mithras R&D AS a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, process, transmit, and display your content — strictly as needed to operate the service. We don't claim any other rights, and we don't use your content to train AI models.
AI
Every interview involves a large language model — currently Claude, made by Anthropic and accessed through OpenRouter. A few things follow from that:
- The AI can be wrong, miss the point, or make things up. Treat its outputs (the questions it phrases, the summaries it writes) as drafts that benefit from your judgment.
- We don't use your content to train models. Our sub-processors (OpenRouter, Anthropic) honour their no-training defaults for our traffic.
- The AI's behaviour, the model version, and the providers we use may change as the service evolves.
Service changes
Sondering is in beta. Features may appear, disappear, change shape, or break. The list of sub-processors we use can change. We may pause or end the service. We'll do our best to communicate material changes — but please don't build anything mission-critical on top of Sondering yet.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or remove access to an interview or account if we believe it's being used in violation of these terms, or in a way that puts respondents, ourselves, or our providers at meaningful risk. We'll explain why where we reasonably can.
You can stop using Sondering at any time. You can also request deletion of your data per the Privacy page.
Liability
Sondering is provided "as is", to the maximum extent allowed by Norwegian law.
We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, lost profits, or for decisions you (or anyone else) make based on AI output.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited — for example, liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or anything covered by mandatory consumer-protection law.
Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Norwegian ordinary courts, except where mandatory consumer-protection rules give you the right to bring proceedings in your local court.
Changes to these terms
We'll announce material changes on this page. If you keep using Sondering after a change, you accept the updated terms. If you don't, the easiest path is to stop using the service and email us for deletion.
